The oil tanker Edward L. Doheny is drifting in a helpless condition about 400 miles southwest of Tampa after a propeller and tail shaft failed. John Carter six son of Mr and Mrs Luther Carter Bastrop suffered a broken right leg in three places and a fractured hip when an auto struck him at Bastrop yesterday. He stepped from the curb at Washington and Oak streets and was run over by Miss Carrie Wilson of Bastrop. He was treated locally then admitted to St Francis sanitarium. No charges were filed as the accident was deemed unavoidable.

Baton Rouge La Oct 19 An exception of no cause of action and a motion to strike were filed today by the Louisiana highway commission and the MacWilliams Dredging company in the suit brought by Hampton Reynolds of New Orleans to compel setting aside of the contract for leasing a dredge for the Lake Shore highway. The company says the contract is valid and was made after legal counsel advice. The highway commission alleges Reynolds sought plans to bid himself and called it a fraud attempt.
