In Crossett and Hamburg road six miles north a mysterious ambush kills Ernest Lambert and wounds his brother Guy. About 30 shots fired from hiding as the wagon bed is torn, one horse shot. Will Ed Whetstone arrested with more expected. Local excitement runs high.
Wireless reports from the Trent show the America crew abandoning the airship as a tropical storm disrupted transmissions. The fifeboat was launched amid risk, then the crew and lifeboat were rescued at 7:30 a.m. in latitude 25.43 N, longitude 62.18 W. Wellman noted the airship was blown off course and the rescue proceeded safely.
Monroe and West Monroe plan a city wide fair with Children’s Day opening and a half day closing for businesses on Tuesday. Heads of departments will handle matters during the fair, schools grant Wednesday holiday, and a schedule includes races at 2 30 pm with judges, timers, and major acts after the hour.
