A large Friday night congregation at St Matthew’s heard Father Kennedy speak on Freedom from Sin Through the Sacrifice of Christ. He urged a pure heart and fidelity to the sacraments, tying devotion to images to warning against idolatry while highlighting Catholic teaching on religious images.
The National Association of Manufacturers adopted unanimous resolutions condemning the International Typographical Union for the Los Angeles Times building wrecking. They blamed the act on criminal unionism and extended sympathy to Gen. Harrison Gray Otis, while noting many unions also denounced the act and offered rewards for dynamiters.
Much interest manifested in the opening game of the championship series between Philadelphia Wing and Fiat. Fans followed the action as the teams contested the title, with local supporters eyeing potential for a decisive series win.

The institution is solvent and depositors and creditors will be paid in full once affairs are settled and liquidators qualified, with a new National Bank expected to succeed.
A gale of forty two miles an hour was recorded at Key West this morning, accompanied by a falling barometer as the day began.
In Hillsboro Texas on October 17 Phillip M Firmin faced trial for the killing of A S Puckett and Warren Williams. He will be tried first for the shooting of Puckett as both victims were guardsmen returning from a militia encampment at Leon Springs on August 13.
A car load of race horses arrived from Hot Springs with more expected from the Arkansas State Fair meet. W. G. Saunders in charge reports a large list of entries following his Hot Springs trip. Entries pour in from other directions daily as purses attract horsemen nationwide.

Walter Wellman leads the dirigible balloon America as it rides a westerly breeze along the Atlantic coast toward the British Isles on the first planned over ocean flight. The crew reports all well with engines, fuel, and life-saving gear aboard.
W O Hart studied congressional records from the Twelfth Congress to weigh Louisiana’s senatorial seat. He notes Destrehan’s commission was never presented and Magruder sat for Louisiana, while Posey filled the vacancy. Hart argues Thornton’s claim is clear and he will be admitted when credentials are presented in December.
The funeral for Mrs J C Terry who died early Friday morning was held at Grave Episcopal Church with Rev H R Carson conducting. A large crowd attended and accompanied the coffin to City Cemetery for burial. Mrs Crane Madge Terry arrived from New York to attend.
United States Senator Jonathan Prentiss Dolliver died at his Fort Dodge home at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday from dilation of the heart caused by acute indigestion. An attending osteopath physician was listening to the heart when he found no heartbeat. Dolliver had been ill for over a year and a half but recently seemed recovered after a Wisconsin trip and a speech tour for Senator La Follette.
Norfolk Va Oct 17 The grand jury investigating alleged frauds in the Second Congressional district primary predicts startling developments. The Democratic State committee has voided the primary after disclosures. About 3700 voters are summoned. investigators expect six to eight weeks for the probe.
