Hickel lifts offshore leasing ban and resumes sales
Interior Secretary Walter J. Hickel announced federal offshore oil leasing will resume after a pollution related moratorium. A sale off Louisiana is set for December 1 with another off western Louisiana planned for the first half of next year and Alaska possibly in late 1979. Soviet Soyuz 6 returns with welding experiments in space
The Soviet Soyuz 6 crew Georgy Shonin and Valery Kubasov landed in Kazakhstan after a 4 day 22 hour mission testing orbital welding in a depressurized chamber. The craft completed its chief objective while two other ships and five cosmonauts remained in orbit. Moscow Radio said the cosmonauts were greeted by rescue teams and are reported to feel fine.

Girl Kidnapping Suspect Escapes Coast to Coast Ride
Kristine Anderson, 17, a nursery school assistant, was abducted by a man with two knives and forced to ride about 300 miles along the California coast.
