A moonlit scene describes a wanderer hearing a song from a campfire phonograph. Social notes list regular club activities, dances, and family visits from Lake Providence to Shreveport and Natchez, with several relocations and recoveries noted.
Mr and Mrs J M Cobb hosted the Night Euchre Club at Riverside Club Tuesday night. Decorations featured bamboo and blackeyed Susans. Winners included Mrs W F Cummings for ladies prizes and a Mr Cummings for gentlemen prizes. Lone hand honors went to Mrs Guy P Stubbs and Henry Bernstein. Mr and Mrs C D Oakley received scorekeeper prizes, and a two course luncheon followed.
In Louisiana New Orleans parish chairmen and committeemen met to launch the Roosevelt memorial fund drive. Judge Rufus E. Foster chaired the state committee and urged a non political non sectarian movement to educate the public on Theodore Roosevelt's teachings and to enlist support across the state.
The floral parade at the Ouachita Agricultural Fair captivated Wednesday attendees as nearly all entries were flower themed cars carrying young girls as passengers. Mrs J C Sadler and Mrs J R Wooten led the event and received wide congratulations for its success.
A showdrop float entered by Millsaps and Company of West Monroe led a field of six little girls representing green flowers under a rustic arch. The parade featured numerous cars with owners listed, including Mrs. J. M. Bennett and J. M. Bennett as well as crews from Overland Motor Company and Sholars. Plans were finalized for visit of Mrs. Albert Storm, president of the Louisiana Federation of Women’s Clubs, with a program at City Hall and a 3 pm meeting for clubwomen. The Red Cross booth at the fair grounds drew crowds amid rain, run by Ouachita Red Cross Chapter and Miss Belle Like with an information booth nearby.
H J Fernandez of the Monroe Chamber of Commerce reports the national railcar shortage running 35 to 40 percent under normal levels. He notes Monroe is not yet critical as jobbers obtain enough cars, but warns on possible impacts if the trend continues and cites new demurrage rules effective October 20 imposing $10 daily storage charges for unused refrigerator and lumber cars.
