Voters head to polls today for the primary contests across six judicial districts. Nominations include several local races with contestants vying for seats and party representation in the upcoming term.
In New Orleans on Oct 15 the Shreveport Times notes primary elections Tuesday in judicial districts with tight contests for judge and district attorney. Nominations include Julius T. Long and Peters Jr in the fourteenth district, Bordelon and Mor in Avoyelles, Reid and Rownd for the fifteenth, Brock and Jeints in the sixteenth, and Heintz and Brock in the twenty-sixth district, with Hazel races and resignations shaping outcomes.
Five vacancies in the Louisiana House of Representatives arise from resignations. At the November 7 general election voters will choose among five nominees to fill the seats, three Democrats and two Progressives. In Caddo Parish the candidate is E Wayles Browne, a Democrat, to succeed John McW.
The Famous Cos reopened sale drew large crowds in Monroe on Saturday with steady interest today. An auction feature will continue for two more days and has yielded many bargains as stock bought when prices were low is offered before seeds must be sold. Shoppers are advised to hurry as items are expected to sell quickly.
Mrs. Fertile Johnson died when the car left a Greenwood road and rolled over an embankment shortly before 9 o clock Sunday. Her husband W F K Johnson 532 Wall Street was seriously hurt with a fractured collar bone and possible internal injuries. Their 12 year old son John and 14 year old Leta Johnson survived with injuries as the vehicle plunged off the road. Leta is being cared for by Mrs S E Thomas at 445 Egan Street. John remains in a dazed condition at the North National sanitarium.
In Andreia Louisiana Charles Ite a farmer in Meldou neighborhood fired his 19 year old daughter Bonnette after she refused to pot pick peas. He used a double shotgun and killed her then killed himself. Coroner J L Wilson held inquest for both bodies. In Nugent Kentucky Coroner Wilson also held inquest for Dexter Voorhies found dead after a possible train fall. he resided in Tioga and was known locally.
Governor Ruffin G. Pleasant led Democratic push in Louisiana as he campaigned in Pineville Alexandria and New Orleans before launching the party’s drive in Lafayette. He plans more stops in Houma and Terrebonne as Republicans enter the race with FE. J. Rodrigue and Napoleonville set for campaign openings. Allies recognize Greece’s Venizelos provisional government in Crete, London reports.
In a straw poll the lead among presidential hopefuls shifts as supporters rally for Wilson. The outcome signals momentum for the candidate amid strong party organization and public interest.

St. Matthew's Catholic Church awarded the contract to build a church tower to Mr. I. T. Davis with work starting after materials are assembled. Architect J. W. Smith drew the plans. The ornamental tower will rise 190 feet.

W A Hare, a ward resident, came to Monroe and asked District Attorney F M Odom to file charges against Prof L L Wood of Swartz school. He alleges the teacher beat his son, described as nearly an invalid, and had the boy examined by a Monroe physician. Hare says he sought court action after friends urged personal remedy.
West Monroe residents contributed $147.73 for the Methodist Orphanage at Ruston on a weekend drive. Busineses agreed to donate a percentage of receipts, adding $104, while the West Monroe Methodist Sunday School and morning church service gave $24.08 and $19.65 respectively. The town’s generosity stands out for a city of its size.

Paducah, Ky. Oct. 16 A mob seized Brick Finley and Asa Thornhill from jail and hanged them after a white woman identified Finley as her attacker. Thornhill was accused of approving the assault and the bodies were burned. Police reserves faced a mob that demanded the prisoner and forced entry into the jail.
