Washington reports approve a regular army of 140000 and a continental army of 400000 to be enlisted six years with two months active duty yearly for three years. A $500000000 five year naval construction plan would add two battleships dreadnoughts and numerous escorts and submarines.

Oct 16 in Busbrugge Belgium three cars of officers and correspondents visited the field hospital run by Mrs Mary Borden Turner of Chicago. The portable hospital with nine wooden buildings and X ray plant served near the firing line while ten recovered men were moved to distant hospitals. Mrs Turner hosted tea and discussed the work.
