Officials discuss moving the primary date from its May slot to align with Mardi Gras. Candidates and party organizers weigh options to avoid conflicts and maximize voter turnout, considering calendar constraints and logistical impacts.
In New Orleans on October 16, the Louisiana Democratic committee discusses delaying the Mardi Gras primary. James C. Henriques calls for mutual consent to possibly hold a second primary after Mardi Gras if needed, while upholding the January 25 date unless legislative action changes it. He warns against voting on Mardi Gras day due to carnival disruption and rural access.
Secretary Landry announced six candidates filed declarations and deposits with the Democratic state central committee. John T. Michel seeks governor, Thos C Barret lieutenant governor, A Villeret secretary of state, Le doux S Smith treasurer, E O Bru ner and William Polk agencies commissioners. Candidates posted 250 to state and 25 to Landry. Landry said neither he nor Estopinal will interpret the primary law, directing disputes to parish committees attorneys or the attorney general.
The Tenth Ward becomes a battleground as legislative candidates oppose the Ewing ticket in the upcoming primary. Leaders rally strong local figures in opposition while others express sympathy with Michel for governor.

Mrs Mott Martin shared Africa work and presented a Cross tale to children.
October 16 Philadelphia witnesses a world series clash as Marquard opposes Coombs with a record crowd at Shibe Park. Lord and Baker homer highlight a tense game while Crandall relieves Marquard and keeps the score 2 0 late in the contest.
The Missouri Pacific Iron Mountain system reports a peak freight move on Friday October 6 with 13 309 cars loaded, followed by 13 049 on Saturday October 7 and 3 415 on Monday October 9. No car stood 24 hours on the system at peak times, signaling strong western and southwestern business.
In Los Angeles on October 16 the McNamara trial resumes with judges to rule on Z. T. Nelson's juror eligibility. Alfred Robertson a well known young farmer is dead and Oscar Joiner fatally wounded after a knife duel by moonlight on the Tan gipahoa River eight miles east of Hammond. They fought after an argument over Robertson's testimony in a perjury case connected to a Bree'and murder. Joiner claimed Robertson did it before collapsing. Joiner’s wounds are fatal. A posse pursued Robertson’s killers but he was found dead at the riverbank.
Accompanied by Governor Tener, automobiles in the Glidden tour started from Philadelphia at nine this morning bound for Jacksonville Florida. The run concluded at Bettysburg with the end of the section.
Washington observers say Taft will likely pick a candidate from the central western region between Missouri and Nevada for Harlan's vacancy. Iowa progressives Cummins and Kenyon are highlighted, with Borah also in range, as Bryan and LaFollette press for a progressive tilt. The choice will shape a Taft court and invite scrutiny of political influence.
Mr. C. E. Maroney returns from Hot Springs with strong news for Monroe race enthusiasts. He has secured many entries from the Arkansas Fair and expects top fields for the Monroe Fair races, with horses already en route from Hot Springs and Fort Smith meets. He plans to prepare the track to first class condition and all Grand Circuit horses are included.
The Missouri Pacific Iron Mountain is installing Fresnal Signal Lamps on the rear end of its trains. The lamps are the same light used aboard ships and steamboats, described as a long narrow belt of light. Continued on page five.
