Chris Chambliss hit a decisive ninth inning homer lifting New York past Kansas City 7 6 to secure a spot in the World Series. Neville hosts Carroll tonight in a district 3-AAAA clash between state ranked unbeaten powers.

President Ford criticized Jimmy Carter in a televised Washington news conference, labeling Carter’s remarks about U S policy as slander. Carter and aides weighed filing with the FCC for equal time to respond while Carter watched the remarks from New York. Powell accused Ford of distorting Carter’s tax and spending positions.
In Franklin Parish Health Unit a morning inoculation drew about 20 people in the first hour with roughly three quarters aged 65 and up. A jet injector capable of 600 per hour drew limited use as volunteers noted a calm start while Ouachita Parish reported about 190 shots for the elderly and high risk groups.

U S Representative Otto Passman rejected allegations reported by The Washington Post that he accepted cash and gifts from South Korean interests. The Post cites an FBI and grand jury inquiry touching several lawmakers and a South Korean promoter, Tongsun Park, amid broader bribery claims and intelligence sources.

New Orleans area reports show swine flu immunization slowed after fears over vaccine safety for the elderly. Coroners note two elderly death cases with heart complications shortly after vaccination, while officials say vaccine links are unproven and orders were lifted.
Housing Secretary Carla A Hills announced that the maximum rate on FHA insured single family mortgages will drop to 8 percent next Monday. The Veterans Administration will match the reduction. Multifamily loans remain at 9 percent.
Revenue and expense figures from the 1976 Ark La Miss Agricultural and Industrial Free Fair show an unofficial loss of 654.59 with total expenses 83,666.53 and revenues 83,011.94. Entertainment cost 30,504.80 but grossed 16,193.20, booth space earned 37,125.00, and about 117,000 attendees were counted.
