A large gathering convened by candidates in Evangeline as they address leaders Messrs Michel and Sanders. The event highlighted key campaign themes and community interest in the forthcoming election.
Thirteen hundred rally in Ville Platte, Evangeline parish, heard J. T. Michel defend his record as secretary of state, E. O. Bruner credit his office savings, and Governor Sanders appeal for votes. The event signaled solid backing for Sanders, Michel, Bruner and Grace in the upcoming contest.
In New Orleans on October 14 rumors became fact as John T. Michel supporters declare the Tenth Ward their battle ground against Robert Ewing. Edward Righter says Michel forces will fight in the ward, with sixteen ward bosses allied to Michel and the fight set to be “sixteen to one.”
New York secured a victory in game one of the series that will determine the world championship. The contest was played today with strong play by the home squad as they took an early lead and held on to win.
Forty thousand fans packed the Polo Grounds to witness the 1911 World Series opener between the New York Nationals and the Philadelphia Americans. Mathewson and Bender pitched, with 2–1 final in favor of New York as Umpires Klem Dineen Brennan Donnally called the game.

Associate Justice John M. Harlan of the United States Supreme Court died at his Washington home at 8 15 this morning of acute bronchitis. He was 78. Born June 1, 1833 in Kentucky, he served as Union colonel, later became associate justice in 1877, noted for independent opinions. He married Malvina Shanklin in 1856. five children survive.
In Philadelphia and New York so far no hits or runs through the first two innings. By the second inning Philadelphia has two hits and one run while New York remains scoreless. Through nine innings Philadelphia leads 1 to 0 after a late run by New York is not completed.
Mr. C. A. Braden, head of Monroe Fair amusements, reports extensive contracting for acts from Gibsland. Attractions include oriental shows magic dog and pony acts vaudeville bands and rides. Aeroplane flights by Carl Moorfield lead free attractions plus poster advertising. Drummers Day will feature a potato race with drummers.
Chicago October 13 William O Blair former state representative faced relentless questions from the Senate committee investigating Lorimer. He is accused of showing 1500 in hundred dollar bills at a Centralia ball game after Lorimer's election and failed to satisfy the panel with answers. The hearing adjourned with Blair to be recalled tomorrow as the committee seeks a full account of his salary 2175 and legal fees plus courts records from five southern Illinois counties for 1909.
In Nashville Tennessee on October 13 1920 Dr S P Harris became the citys first Black councilman in over twenty five years winning against the Democratic primary nominee era history noted with former Black councilman J C Rapier now U S Treasurer registrar.
The Elks organization forms a seven member committee led by Exalted Ruler J M Cobb to plan a new lodge. Opinions favor a three story building with club spaces on the first two floors and a lodge hall on the third, near $30,000 expected to be spent. Initiation fees may rise to fifty dollars after completion.
The Board of Directors of the Monroe Fair Association will meet at the Fair Grounds tomorrow Sunday morning at 9 o'clock.

Memphis October 13 bullet holes punctured walls at the Illinois Central office in the Nonconah yards as clerks fled in a hurry. No injuries reported though guards were stepped up after the strike of Illinois Central shopmen and clerks began in Memphis.
In New Orleans on Oct 13 former policeman W J Mason a prominent Illinois Central employee and alleged mob leader was sentenced by Judge Foster to three months imprisonment for violating the court injunction. About $80 000 was paid to Harriman line striking workers their September wages with no disorder reported.
A four day Sunday School Institute for Northeast Louisiana opens tomorrow at 3 p m in the First Methodist Church Monroe visitors from the region are expected Leading Sunday school workers from the state and south will take part The program includes talks by Geo D Booth Susie M Juden Mott Martin Rev Gardiner L Tucker Rev A O Browne Rev W H Coleman and Rev W Lomax Childress with sessions on elementary secondary and adult divisions and a final address on The Great International Convention at San Francisco
McComb City Miss October 13 Officials say Illinois Central Carmen's Union members are on leave and not striking. No notice to call out. Illinois Central reports 250 at work in Louisiana division shops. Fifteen strike-breakers were moved last night with no disorder.

An order from Washington pardons John R. Walsh former Chicago banker and railroad president. Walsh has served one year eight months and twenty six days of a five year sentence and will likely begin his return trip to Chicago after a son arrives and plans to leave this afternoon.
Los Angeles Oct 14 The McNamara trial opened with defense opposition to juror Nelson claiming prejudice, prompting arguments on his eligibility before reseating the panel.
The Twenty Sixth Senatorial District Democratic Executive Committee convened and adopted a resolution ordering a primary election on the state party primary date to select a candidate for State Senator. Prospective candidates must file notices within ten days and deposit twenty five dollars, with half remitted to Ouachita and Jackson parish committees to place names on local ticket ballots. The meeting adjourned.
Mr W M Lynch of Monore advances the formation of a Hall Traveling Men's Club for commercial travelers from the city. The first meeting is at Hotel Monroe at 8 30 tonight followed by a smoker. Drummers expect strong turnout.
Miss Rachel Bond daughter of Mr and Mrs William A Bond wed Lieut Ralston Smith Holmes United States Army in a ceremony at the Kenwood Evangelical Church Chicago. The reception followed at the bride’s Drexel boulevard home.
