Stringer Convicted of Aggravated Battery in Wife Case

A five man jury in Fourth Judicial District Court found Edward Lynn Stringer of West Monroe guilty of aggravated battery against his wife Katherine Stringer. The verdict followed about two hours of deliberation and Stringer faces up to ten years with or without hard labor. Sentencing date not set.

Town Council Levies Taxes for Bonded Indebtedness

North Hodge town council passes ordinances levying 31 mills to retire bonded indebtedness and fund public improvements. Eight mills apply to Lower District One for debt retirement, seven mills cover current village operating expenses, and 16 mills go to paying off public improvement bonds.

Open House Celebrates Ford Bacon&Davis Monroe Facility

About 300 guests attended ceremonies for Ford Bacon Davis Construction Corp at the 3901 Jackson St. Monroe facility. The 16,000 square foot expansion enlarges the Monroe division to 500 employees and features an in house computer serving 150 engineers and draftsmen. The plant, costing about 250000 dollars, serves paper mills refineries and chemical plants and acts as consulting engineers for the Utilities Commission City of Monroe. Peak construction periods may draw 1500 workers.

Parsons Remains On Shreveport Post Despite Indictment

Mayor L. Calhoun Allen said George W. Parsons will stay on the city payroll while a Monroe indictment for theft is pending. Parsons, 42, was returned from a Massachusetts planning meeting and had been director of the Monroe Ouachita Regional Planning Commission. He was hired from Monroe in July and has prior experience with Arch R. Winter, the Air Force, and local redevelopment and regional councils.

Ruston Chamber Proposes Liaison Committee to Cut Red Tape

The Ruston Chamber of Commerce urged local bodies to form a four member liaison committee for joint issues. Represented by Charles Kilgore the group would include the Lincoln Parish Police Jury the Ruston Board of Aldermen the Lincoln Parish School Board and the Chamber. The committee would lack direct authority but work on cooperative plans for approval by the partner bodies.
