A riot by 106 prisoners in Delaware county jail ended when six inmates were shot by deputized residents and police. Women inmates helped join the uprising after guards reduced their food rations, with fires started around the jail but no fatalities reported.
In Orwell Ohio a two and a half year old girl Isabel Zandarski was found murdered after an autopsy showed a skull fracture from a blow to the head. The body was located by a hunter in a cow pasture a mile and a half from the home, barefoot and in a flannel nightgown.
Arraigned in district court this morning A W Smith of Joplin Missouri pleaded guilty to passing five bogus checks valued from 3 to 140 dollars and was sentenced to six months in jail by Judge Percy Sandel N M Frisby received sixty days in jail and a 500 dollar fine or six months more for possession of whiskey L Jackson got 30 days in jail and 25 dollar fine plus 30 days extra imprisonment after pleading guilty to driving while intoxicated.
Queen Marie of Romania travels to New York aboard the U. S. S. Leviathan and requests distinctly American dishes for her meals. Her first aboard meal features corn on the cob and fried sweet potatoes. She and Prince Nicholas prefer ice water, with tea if ice water is unavailable, as Nicholas notes he is a teetotaler in a prohibition country.
Detective Sergeant Arthur B. Berivener thirty six year old veteran of the Washington police proclaimed himself the happiest man in the world on the eve of his wedding to Miss Helen Barnes Parker of McLean Virginia Thirty minutes later he was shot dead in his home by an unknown assailant who fled The necktie gripped in his hand and a pistol nearby are the only clues to the killer.
Al Capone urges an end to Chicago bootleg violence saying there is room for all in the liquor trade. He tells reporters in Cicero he wants peace, recalls his alibi, and appeals to gang leaders to lay down guns and consider families. Police doubt his involvement.
Speculation runs high as President J. H. Trousdale and Junior Board President C. E. McKenzie summon all directors and key members to a 7:30 p.m. conference at the chamber office. A large procession carries former Governor Henry L. Fuqua from St James Episcopal Church to Magnolia Cemetery as state mourners gather. He lies in state at the Governor's Mansion before a simple gray plush casket bearing his name. The Anglican service is led by Dr Malcolm Lockhart with organ music by W B Clarke.

A W Witcher a traveling man for Creditors' Adjustment Co from St Louis aged about 40 died of heart disease early this morning after breakfast at Hotel Monroe in Tyler. He had reached Monroe last night from Mississippi on regular rounds and planned to go to San Antonio home. He had been ill in Clarksdale Miss last Saturday but pressed on. He registered for lodging, grew worse, and died shortly after being placed in his room with doctors saying heart disease as cause. His body is at Peters undertakers and Texas relatives notified. he was a member of the Elks.

Senator L. D. Tyson, former AA Cotton Manufacturers president, from Tennessee, travels to Memphis for cotton conference. He urges farm bills passed by Congress to ease the 1926 cotton surplus and outlines eight storage and financing plans to stabilize prices and reduce acreage. Conference in Memphis later considers hundreds of resolutions to finance the crop and cut acreage for 1927.
Testimony in the Joe Genna murder trial describes the trip of Breville’s body from a Pickering mill pond to DeRidder, Lake Charles, and Sabine river routes. Katie Saddler and Edna Saddler corroborate parts of a confession placing Morton Brasseaux as co defendant and outlining the plan to burn Breville’s car.
