Washington reports that after sharply reducing the surplus, the government plans to boost cotton production about 65 percent next year. The 1968 program lowers payments to about 800 million dollars and relaxes skip row rules to encourage larger acreages while restoring lenient acreage compliance measures from pre 1966.
Israeli Ambassador Avraham Harman told Monroe Rotary Club on Ladies Night that a durable peace in the Middle East is possible. He cited Arab reluctance to reconvene talks, Soviet arms, and the need for realism and regional cooperation. A suit seeking an injunction against Ferriday Mayor L. W. Woody Davis has been appealed to the Fifth Circuit after a district court dismissal as premature. Filed in Monroe by four Ferriday residents, the case alleges violations of the Louisiana Constitution and the 14th Amendment. Eddie Scott says he was jailed three days over a $200 cash bond after a November 4, 1966 arrest for simple battery.
