Union dock workers at Lake Charles and various Texas ports stage walkouts to pressure employers as they seek to secure new contracts for the Inland Logistics Association. The actions affect cargo handling and port operations amid ongoing bargaining.
An estimated 3,400 ILA members walk out at Texas ports and Lake Charles La to widen Gulf coast strike disruptions. At Lake Charles a picket fight with Clooney Construction's driver occurred as officers restored port access. Police report a Negro dock worker shot in the hip and another beaten in New Orleans. The strike aims to pressure New Orleans steamship interests to hire ILA men, starting at 8 am.
More than 3,000 International Longshoremen's Association members in Texas and Lake Charles started an 8 am walkout. They demand a contract aligning Lake Charles with New Orleans and inclusion in the district agreement. Operators use non union crews to handle cargo, potentially tying up ships for days.

Salt Lake City reports an oil spot on Great Salt Lake hints at the twin motor airliner's crash site from last Sunday. Divers began dragging the lake bottom near Stansbury Island as bodies of pilot R S Allen and mechanic George O Anderson washed ashore at the island and were taken to Tooele. Co pilot G A Lenz is believed still aboard the vessel.
Dun and Bradstreet reports continued improvement in retail distribution aided by favorable weather and freer consumer spending. Retail sales rose 5 to 15 percent for the week with the year over year gain narrowing to about 6 to 12 percent, as shopping conditions remained strong nationwide.

Rochester dairyman Glenn Brasser, 22, held under guard after confessing to strangling Muriel Hall 18 during a lovers quarrel. He signed a two page confession stating the death occurred Wednesday evening in her Rochester home after a dispute.
Government probes Abraham L. Shushan tax case focusing on a 1929 Chicago visit and alleged rebate payments from Standard Dredging tied to Lake Pontchartrain seawall contracts and a $4,000,000 airport project. Grover Edwards testified Shushan stayed at the Congress Hotel August 16 1929 for two days.

In Homer Louisiana two menwere found guilty in the March highway attack and killing of a hitchhiker. H G Allen 40 Dubach was guilty of criminal assault with mercy recommended and faces up to 20 years. Robert Nattin 19 was convicted of manslaughter. The case involves an attack on the victim on the Homer Minden road.
Chicago October 11 taxi driver William Leinnert testified at the Mandeville Zenge murder trial that Zenge claimed he abducted Dr Walter J Bauer and performed an emasculation operation that caused the doctor's death He quoted the defendant saying he did not mean to kill him blaming the hospital for not saving Bauer and citing jealousy over Bauer courting Zenge's former sweetheart Dr Bauer a 38 year old college instructor was the motive in the case
