Mona McLellan, London's mystery swimmer, completed the English Channel crossing from Cape Griz-Nez in 13 hours and 10 minutes, arriving at Folkestone Beach at 8 50 am. She collapsed after landing and was taken to Hythe for rest. Her swim followed Gertrude Ederle's 14 hour 81 minute record being surpassed on her fifth attempt.

Son of Virginia Day Leader Receives Jail Time
Carroll Hepburn, 23, son of Rev. David Hepburn head of Virginia’s anti saloon league, drew ten days in jail and a $50 fine in Hastings court for transporting liquor after a July crash into a trolley wire post. A broken bottle and a half full pint were found in the vehicle, registered to the anti saloon league. Hepburn denied knowledge of the second bottle.

Aged Negro Saves Life in Blast at Sterlington Plant
J M Armstrong 54, of Sterlington, admits Richard Turner aged negro saved his life yesterday after an explosion in a hot house at Imperial Oil and Gas Products. Turner tackled Armstrong pulling him down and tearing burning clothing free, leaving Armstrong only minor burns. Foreman C O Welch 25 entered the hot house with a kerosene torch when gas ignited, knocked him back eight feet and burned his leather jacket though his face and hands suffered minor burns.
