Local Lineman Dies Rescuing Fellow Worker Near Delhi
Earl Blackstock, 25, a Louisiana Power and Light lineman, died after a 20 foot fall while freeing a trapped assistant who touched a live wire. Blackstock and the helper were working on a wire fault near Delhi when contact occurred. Blackstock released the man then fell, dying from a fractured spine about midnight. He left a wife and small child. The assistant suffered burns but survived.

Three masked bandits robbed the East Memphis Bank and Trust Company at Madison avenue and Claybrook streets near noon. They beat manager J. D. Nowlin, held cashier and a clerk and a young woman customer at bay, and escaped with about 4000 dollars in currency from the vault. The robbers fled in a small car after stuffing money into a bag. Ten minutes earlier, 5000 dollars had been sent from a peto to another bank in Memphis.

McDougale to Stand Trial for Kin Slaying
A C McDougale will go on trial in district court Thursday November 4 for the murder of W A Phelps his first cousin. Arraigned before Judge Percy Sander McDougale pleaded not guilty and his case was set for trial. He was arraigned with attorney Walter Elder of Farmerville and District Attorney David I Garrett. The shooting occurred in the bath house of the United Carbon Company near Swartz where both men worked. The homicide followed a domestic dispute and McDougale surrendered to Sheriff’s officers. The case was presented to the grand jury which returned a true bill of murder.

A fast northbound engine struck Wallace after his car failed to stop on the west track. Bystanders heard the impact as the train halted nearby.
