The dynamo and all equipment except the boiler were bought for 5700 dollars. Prospects favor the construction of an ice factory to be operated with the light plant.
President Taft will spend the first three days of the week in Washington speaking in Tacoma Everett Seattle and other cities. He will be in Portland on Wednesday night for a Commercial Club banquet and remain overnight then proceed to Salem and California joining the San Francisco Panama exposition ground breaking ceremonies. Governors of several states will meet Monday to mark the Chicago fire anniversary.

He urged compromise and warned that business reform must come from within.
Milwaukee October 7 Senatorial committee hearing 275 items totaling 107793 reveal funds used for entertainment rather than corruption. Rodney Sackett testified money was sent as cigars beer and whisky to areas to influence the election of United States Senator Isaac Stephenson.
Frederick Hamlin, superintendent of Bayless Pulp and Paper, refused to testify at the coroner's inquest into the Austin dam break that killed Mrs Hess and Herbert Reese. District Attorney Nelson adjourned further inquiry for at least two weeks to obtain expert testimony. Hamlin cited constitutional rights and potential self incrimination as his reason for silence.
