Thousands of students and families attended Kids Day at the Ark La Miss Agricultural and Industrial Fair held at the Monroe Civic Center. Wed was designated Kids Day with school dismissals to join midway rides and fair activities.
The Senate Finance Committee voted 13 to 4 to kill the industrial users tax in Carter's energy plan. Chairman Russell Long led a strategy to push the matter into a House Senate conference to shape a new energy tax draft later. Republicans voiced opposition but acknowledged Long had the votes to press the plan to conference.

The Labor Department reports wholesale prices climbed 0.5 percent in September the largest gain since April signaling possible inflation acceleration. Farm prices fell 0.2 percent the fifth straight monthly decline while the industrial price index rose 0.8 percent the largest since October 1976.
President Carter told 27 congressmen that the U.S.-Soviet joint statement does not diminish American support for Israel. The meeting followed concerns over language about Palestinian rights and the Palestinians. Some lawmakers praised his firmness toward Israel while others warned the wording could tilt perceptions against the Jewish state.

A 70 year old West Monroe woman Emma Dennis was found dead in a pond on the Jim Cole farm five miles north of Farmerville. Deputies say she fell from an aluminum chair in a small boat and was pronounced dead at the scene. Funeral arrangements are handled by Kilpatrick's Funeral Home of West Monroe.
District Attorney Johnny Parkerson and DA representatives disputed claims that the office inspected carnival games at the Ark-La-Miss Fair. Civic Center officials said law enforcement and city attorney staff reviewed the midway and condoned the games, while Farrow Amusement and city leaders arranged to close all concession games for the fair to honor a court order.
