Federal court hearings continue as testimony unfolds on day two in a case against two labor leaders from South Louisiana. The proceedings focus on union activities and alleged misconduct. A related financial crime topic is noted elsewhere in the paper.

Thousands line West Monroe streets for first annual Ouachita Valley Free Fair Parade starting at Wood Street. The event promotes Kids Day as Education Day with Mr Mighty Might entertaining children before a mile long procession led by Louisiana figures and dignitaries.
Secretary of State Kissinger resumes talks with Israeli and Arab leaders in New York as he eyes a possible pre Geneva meeting on Middle East peace. He plans breakfast with Yigal Allon and lunch with Prince Saud, plus meetings with Indonesian, Pakistani, Cypriot and Filipino officials, amid hopes to move toward direct talks and a broader conference. The push faces PLO questions and Syria relations, with improved Arab-Israeli ties giving potential momentum.
In Bangkok the defense minister Sangad Chalanya seized control from Premier Seni Pramoj as clashes between leftists and rightists disrupted Thammasat University. Police reported at least 22 dead, many students, and around 180 wounded with reports of mobs setting bodies on fire and executions. Martial law was declared and over 1,300 students were arrested.
The Monroe Charter Commission chairman says any move to intervene in a federal reapportionment suit was done without his knowledge and against the commission rules. Mel Cook, secretary treasurer for the city, says he knew nothing of efforts to seek permission to intervene as a friend of the court in the Shreveport federal case. Former City Attorney Robert Cuddell says he was asked to file the motion and that a majority of members agreed, but he won’t identify the calling member.
Jimmy Carter says he will press President Ford in the second debate on foreign and defense policy at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco. Ford aides doubt preparation for tough questions, while GAO and Butz fallout loom as possible topics, with networks and PBS televising.
Farris and Brenda Duncan of 221 Lynette West Monroe celebrate their fourth anniversary at home with their two children. Twin Cities businessman Billy Edmondson of 1011 Hilton St Monroe will celebrate his birthday Thursday.
