Monroe police arrested Leonard McMillian late Saturday for an armed robbery of a 75 year old man. Officers found Andrew Wheat in the 500 block of Sixth Street with injuries and missing cash and shells. McMillian was captured and shells found. he was jailed in Ouachita Parish.

In the Ouachita Parish fourth district court Judge Jesse Heard named Ed Lohan foreman of the grand jury chosen Monday. The panel began its term by examining the shooting of 16 year old Jimmie Parrott which fatally injured Lawrence Vaughan. It would also hear the death of a seven month old Negro child whose mother Rose Whitfield said she dropped the child while bathing and disposed of the body in the Ouachita River.

The Monroe West Monroe Chamber of Commerce retail division will stage its annual Christmas parade November 28 with a Santa Claus replica and eight reindeer along DeSiard Street. An hour long fireworks display over the Ouachita River caps the evening. Committees headed by Solicitations chair Milton Gorn and others have started planning, with a final meeting set October 10. The Twin City pageant, adopted by 18 firms, aims to make Monroe and West Monroe the state’s top shopping center in the coming session.
