Gracious hospitality returns after four years of war as Monroe resumes social life. A. Johnson of Sane Diego visits daughter Mrs. Burt W. Sperry, joining sixty five guests at a Tuesday morning gathering hosted by Mrs. Gladys Sperry. Camellias, butterfly lilies, and silver coffee services grace the elegant dining room.
Mrs Allan Scholars and Mrs Henry Blanks hosted guests with Mr Sperry’s discharge from the U S navy in Pensacola Florida. The focal club plans a service at the Presbyterian church led by Rev Ernest Holloway followed by a Frances hotel banquet led by president Mrs Gladys Miles. Publicity head Miss Marble Hood will oversee the program as radio events and an al fresco Bernstein Park supper close the social week.
Miss Kate Perkins speaks on the political history of Louisiana at La Tertulia Book club's first meeting of the year. Club president Mrs. E M Watkins introduced her. hostesses were Miss Jean Spencer and Mrs. Louise Hundley.
The Review Club met at Mrs W T Davis home for the season’s first session. Agatha Boyd Adams prepared the readings from Adventures in Reading while Mrs Lea Thompson and Mrs C Breath reviewed The Shape of Books to Come and The Leaning Tower. A reception followed with members and guests, including Lt and Mrs Albert Startin as honored couple, and various society circles announced upcoming meetings and events across Monroe Louisiana.
President Truman ordered the War Production Board to be scrapped and replaced by the Civilian Production Administration on November 3. CPA keeps WPB powers as civilian production controls continue. WPB employed about 25,000 vs CPA's 2,500, with 40 essential controls remaining.
