Uniform minimum wage scales urged by cotton manufacturer group
Fred W. Steele of the National Association of Cotton Manufacturers urged nationwide uniform minimum wage scales at the group's meeting in Providence. He said ending regional differentials would not hurt efficient firms and would raise purchasing power in low wage areas. The association warned that foreign competition, especially from Japan, erodes American cotton dominance.

Four Big Planes Hunt Lost Russian Aviator
Moscow reports four planes with 36 searchers under Ivan Chuknovsky left the capital to find Sigismund Levanevsky who vanished on a trans polar flight. September Auto Accidents In Monroe Rise To 43
Nine people were injured in Monroe auto accidents during September. Police report 43 total crashes, up four from August, with 731 traffic violations and 244 arrests. Five cars were stolen, seven recovered, including two stolen outside the city. Property losses totaled 332 with 280 recovered. Three minor burglaries were reported.

Mrs. Jack Hogg, 24, of Jonesboro, charged with the fatal shooting of her father Lee Willis, 61, a Botts area farmer, was brought back from Monroe to Jonesboro to stand trial in the Jackson criminal district court during the current session. She had been moved to Ouachita parish jail on August 28, five days after the shooting, with authorities citing alleged ill treatment of the mother by the father as the motive.
