The U S Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals withheld ruling on a motion for a preliminary injunction to admit Harvey B. Gantt a Negro student from Iowa State College to Clemson College South Carolina. The court said the case can be heard on its merits soon and postponed admission at least until the second semester of 1963. The ruling followed arguments at Alexandria Virginia.

A Philadelphia father filed a federal suit seeking 2.5 million dollars in damages from William S. Merrell Co and Richardson Merrell Inc alleging thalidomide caused his 18 month old son Thomas Diamond to be born with missing arms, vertebrae and brain damage. The suit claims the drug was administered in Cleveland in August 1960 and the child was born April 6, 1961 at Abington Memorial Hospital.
