Soviet Rocket To Photograph Moon Tuesday
The flying Soviet space laboratory will reach its closest distance to the moon on Tuesday and take mankind's first photos of its hidden face. Tass said the craft should come within 4,350 miles at 5 p.m. EST Tuesday. The station separated from its launch stage and was 154,000 miles from Earth near the Indian Ocean at noon Moscow time. It moves toward the moon more slowly than earlier Luna probes to loop around and return rather than drift into space. The unmanned craft carries a camera. pictures will be radioed back to Earth. An astronomer called it a new moon achievement.

Cold Front Due Tonight Moves Through Monroe Area
An eastward moving cold front will bring rain and thunder to Monroe tonight. The front arrives from Shreveport and is expected around 7 p.m. with the Mississippi River reach forecast for 7 a.m. Tuesday. Sunday highs reached 92 degrees and 72 degrees were recorded overnight.
