A state engineers survey begins on Lake D Arbonne project. Harvey G. Fields says a resident engineer is in Farmerville to survey the Bayou D Arbonne site for a dam and lake. A $1,000,000 appropriation funds the survey and related costs while a five member commission will administer the project. The lake is planned at 18 to 20 acres, with the dam south of Farmerville and near Moselys Bluff. The survey will take at least a year.
One day remains for any person wishing to register in time to vote in the November 6 general election. The registration books will close for the entire parish and state Saturday and remain closed through the election. Voters will decide on 48 constitutional amendments and a call for a constitutional convention with delegates to the meeting. The convention dates depend on the vote passing.

Police found the month old Ronald Joseph Bucher unharmed with a woman identified as Gladys Bynum after a door to door search in a middle class Chicago area near Midway Airport. Three hundred officers questioned neighbors and checked trash cans. Detectives said there was no ransom angle. The infant’s mother Lois Bucher said the kidnapper posed as pregnant and invited herself home claiming to rest.
A two car collision on Louisiana Highway 71 about 25 miles south of Alexandria killed four people. Leonard Breaux age 50 and his wife Thelma 31 of Meeker were partners in a roadside tavern. Ira O Quinn 40 and wife Dottie 34 of Natchitoches died in the other car. Their daughter, 3, survived with undetermined injuries and was treated at an Alexandria hospital.
Mrs. Eva Woods of 1911 Jackson Street was hospitalized at St Francis Friday with bruises and a foot injury after the bus driver started moving as she stepped off at the Jackson Street Plum Street stop. Driver F. E. Brueck operated the South Side bus. Rex Ensminger notes she had one foot on the ground when the bus began. Neighbors yelled for the driver to stop, but a wheel ran over her foot, sending her to the ground. She cites arthritis and slower exit as factors.

In Zachary Louisiana a 32 year old Black man, Simon Steward, was arrested after a possum hunt on a private farm ended in the fatal shooting of Zachary High School agriculture teacher William C. Ulmer. Bloodhounds aided the search as deputies described the case as a serious incident.

Faulk Post No. 13 American Legion announced its annual barbecue set for October 15 at the Legion home on Forsythe Avenue starting at 6 30 p m A O Ware vice commander and general chairman outlined the event with committee members Saul Adler Gordon Gibson Pete Dowd and Milton W Ford urging Legionnaires and prospective members to attend.
Twenty five persons were slated to be brought into fourth district court today for operating motor vehicles while under the influence. The 25 cases were part of 76 arraignments and trials before Judge Jesse Heard. By noon seven had paid fines of 300 dollars and costs after pleading guilty. Names include Travis Traylor Jr, Brown Mikel, Eula Lewis Robinson, Floyd Owens Jr, James P Mobley, Quincy D Gibbon, James L Foster and Miles E Boyd. Other defendants listed were Benjamin Vale, Charles H Evans, Marvin Clayton Hollis, Leo L Howell, Sadie Paileh Sheil, James R Sullis, Dorchester Webb, Robert P Withers, John L Redden, Everett Sanderson, Ray P Gullett, Otis F Moore, Clarence Powell, Sam Swift, Edgar Hoplegood, and Jessie Carl Lowder.
