Tropical disturbance near Key West moved out to sea after lashing the Florida Keys with outer winds and bringing heavy rains to the lower east coast. Two injured, several buildings damaged in Miami and Hollywood, fires and unroofed structures reported near Fort Lauderdale as storm warnings were issued along both coasts. Meanwhile Southern California sweltered with record heat, Los Angeles hitting 100, Pasadena 103, and Riverside 104 as a Utah high pressure system fueled the heat wave.

Woodmen of the World president D E Bradshaw and U S Senator Morris Sheppard arrived in Monroe for a morning visit. They were greeted at Hotel Frances by local and state officers, with a luncheon and radio broadcast. Bradshaw noted 19 000 members in Louisiana and strong growth despite adverse conditions. Senator Sheppard declined to discuss liquor policy or politics, citing the repeal era.
NEW ORLEANS Oct 5 Aid from the Home Owners Loan corporation prevented 98 foreclosures in Louisiana, announced by Paul B Habans state manager. He said 1 804 loan applications totaling 3 514 392 92 had been received through September 30 with two loans granted 168 approved with stipulations 137 rejected and eight withdrawn. Remaining actions await.
