M C Jones of DeQuincy died after a small car struck an Interurban bus between Clarks and Kelly. R F Donahoe was injured. a third man unharmed. All three worked as mill mechanics in Clarks and were en route to their lodging when the crash occurred. The body is at Riverview sanitarium pending inquest.
New York October 5 Mrs Carrie Chapman Catt argues nine tenths of women’s clubs should be disbanded and their energies redirected to worthwhile causes. She says much energy is wasted as a kitten chasing its tail.
In New York on October 5, magistrate Brodsky agreed with H. H. Bredenthal that a $2.75 shave and removal of a blackhead was exces sive. Barber Maurice Walker was summoned but could not justify a violet rag and lemon pack for the customer. The court awarded the customer 75 cents.
J B Bullock of Downsville reports ending cotton sales for 1927 early with higher profits than 1926. He sold 11 bales, paid all bills, and expects better farm finances as rye oats and grazing crops will be planted. Bullock notes land yielded over half a bale per acre and some over 4 bales per acre. He advocates crop diversification.
Rev. C. B. Atkinson of Alexandria visits West Monroe to promote a standard training school to be opened at the First Methodist church. He will preach tonight at the West Monroe Methodist church on Religious Education.
Edward Schlee and William Brock, fresh from a grueling 38 day flight aimed at circling the earth in record time, collapsed during a banquet in their honor in Detroit. Schlee was carried from the hall after a quick medical response, with plans for rest and possibly a second attempt to beat the 28 day record.
Secretary Hoover told an American Red Cross audience that another flood relief appeal would likely be needed before year’s end. He said current funds may be insufficient for 250 000 acres of land left unfitted for crops and requiring aid.
Taken out of the box early in today's game Kreme was replaced by Milius as Lazzeri delivered a timely double to spark the Yankee attack and shift momentum against the Pirates.
