A total of 217101.01 extra salaries will be paid to Ouachita parish and Monroe city teachers for 1947 48 beyond pre legislation schedules. The parish gets 166101.01 and Monroe about 51000 with October 1 and October 3 checks. White teachers gain 115016.55 in the parish and colored teachers 51084.46. the parish schedule adds 475 per year for whites and a nonuniform but weighted increase for colored teachers averaging about 600 per year. The city system sees a comparable pay rise over its schedule.

Convicted knifer faces U S charge in federal court
James Wesley Huggins 25 already serving five years for a knife attack on Edna Connelly at 1207 St John street Madison parish July 3 1946. He was moved from Angola to parish jail to await arraignment on a Dyer act federal violation tied to driving Connelly’s car into Vicksburg after the assault. The federal charge carries up to five years. He was apprehended two months later in California after fleeing the scene on U S 80 and later identified by Connelly as the assailant.

Boy Confesses Killing Woman in Chicago Crime Probe
