19th Person Dies Of Encephalitis

In Trenton New Jersey a 70 year old man died Wednesday night seemingly from an eastern equine encephalitis outbreak, the first fatality in what officials termed a suspected epidemic. Extra Penny Tax On Gas Beams Today

The federal government began a new penny tax on each gallon of gasoline to fund the interstate highway system. The rate rises from three to four cents per gallon and is expected to raise about a billion dollars over 21 months, expiring July 1, 1961 unless Congress acts. Man Killed By Hit-Run Driver Near Santa Rosa

Purvis man J T Rouse, 34, was struck and killed on U S Highway 11 near Santa Rosa in Picayune.
