She gave up the telephone after being overwhelmed by calls from children and parents. The postman on her route sometimes wishes she were not on it.
Wayne George an 11 year old Mounds youth is charged with murder in the death of Burrill Collins 24 farmer near Talulah Louisiana. Collins died from a brick injury after a cafe quarrel ended with George throwing a brick as Collins left the building. Witness accounts described the fatal blow and the immediate aftermath.
Lucas Vaccaro Sr., 79, once a fruit peddler in the French Market, heads a major banana importing firm. He and his brothers saved to buy a schooner for coconut trading, later forming Standard Fruit Co in 1926 with about 50 million capital to acquire several fruit and steamship businesses.
New Orleans November 30 The Louisiana Supreme Court denied a hearing on Mrs. Joseph T Manning's suit to break a trust estate from her husband who died in 1931 The court held the 1935 act could not affect estates established before its passage preserving contracts but upheld its other provisions The decision concludes an 18 month dispute over more than $50 000 in an estate and lists numerous secondary rulings.
Harold Upshaw three years old died after scalding from spilled hot water prepared by his mother for washing at the family farm near Holly Ridge. He was taken to Monroe hospital and died early Sunday. Funeral at Canaan Baptist church Union parish with Rev. D. K. Sawyers officiating. Survived by parents a grandmother and eight siblings.
The National Safety Council raised its 1936 traffic death total to 29,850 for the first ten months and projected 37,400 by year end, surpassing 1935’s record. Pedestrian fatalities rose two percent, with a 11 percent jump for ages five to fourteen, while other vehicle deaths fell one percent.
