The Soldier's Medal for Heroism was awarded at a brigade review to Second Lieutenant Frances C. Grevemberg of the 105th Coast Artillery Anti Aircraft battalion. His father Frank B. Grevemberg of New Orleans pinned the medal. He earned it for rescuing two soldiers from Chesapeake Bay last summer while at Fort Monroe Virginia. The 105th and 106th battalions and the 211th Coast Artillery Anti Aircraft regiment participated in the review with Brigadier General Harvey C. Allen presenting.

Fire gutted the upper story of 222 Marshall Street at 3 am killing five members of the Wedgewood family including an expectant mother and an 18 month old, with two others injured. Virginia Wedgewood died later in hospital. Fireman and others survived injuries.
Judge Ben C. Dawkins had not taken up former Governor Richard W. Leche’s petition seeking a suspension of his ten year prison sentence for mail fraud. Two 16 year old boys shackled by officers began their return to Leesburg Va after three days of investigation. Commonwealth's Attorney says a complete confession was obtained from Paul Hoback and Tommie Peters regarding the slaying of Ward Loveless a 51 year old Washington attorney. Loveless was found dead at his estate near Peonian Spring after returning from Washington. Smith Carroll alerted authorities leading to the arrests in Appalachia Va.
Two members of the Duchess Spinelli gang, Gordon Hawkins aged 22 and Mike Simeone aged 33, were executed in San Quentin's gas chamber. They followed leader Juanita Spinelli, "the duchess," who was executed last week, and they were convicted of murdering 19-year-old Robert Sherrard during a bar holdup in San Francisco. The trio had run a career of murder and robbery, fearing police and testifying against them.
