The J C Penney board declares a regular 1.00 per share dividend for the quarter ending December 31 1936 an extra 3.75 per share and a special Christmas bonus for employees. Bonuses equate to two weeks pay for those over a year with 25 000 employees affected. President E C Sams calls it additional remuneration for loyalty and service.
John J. Grosch New Orleans chief of detectives left Dallas in an aircraft with Dominick Periano en route to New Orleans to face a murder charge in the slaying of Joseph Famarola restaurant operator. Jimmie Dunn flew the detective and prisoner from Los Angeles to Dallas and then commercial plane to the west coast. Dunn’s plane carried the prisoner on to New Orleans and Dallas pilot Russ Kirlen expected to reach New Orleans after noon.

At least eight people died during Thanksgiving holidays across Louisiana and Mississippi. Causes included automobile accidents four deaths, a train accident, a hunting gun discharge, a construction accident, and a youth dying after a football game. Notable deaths: Longino Staempfli, 20, former Holy Cross athlete, collapsed after a sandlot game in New Orleans. M Marx, 74, president of Columbia Land, struck by a car in Bogalusa. O A Gregory, about 45, killed when his car left the highway near Covington. Others include Harold Nix, 17, shot during a duck hunt on Caddo lake. James Partee, 16, New Orleans High, struck while riding a bicycle. William Traywick, 24, WPA worker, killed by falling piling at a dam site near Sardis, Mississippi. Mrs McEligton of Natchez killed when her truck was struck by another vehicle.
Barclay H. Warburton Jr., 38, grandson of John Wanamaker, died from accidental shotgun discharge while hunting. He staggered home to his country house after slipping while climbing a fence and the full charge entered his abdomen. He died two hours later in Abington hospital.
