The new suburban addition to Monroe will be named Terminal Heights. A large force works to prepare the ground for the major auction sale set to be announced early next week, with Mr. H. B. Phillips in charge and conducting the sale.
In Augusta Georgia on November 27 a jury was secured and witness calling started in the federal case against Thomas Watson for sending obscene literature through the mails.
Alexandria fire began at 5 a m in the Fred Brenner Lumber Company yards and burned all day, consuming five million feet of hardwood lumber valued around 250000 dollars. The saw mill was saved, but the barn fire killed five mules. A wind fanned the flames, and limited water mains hindered suppression. Four railroad cars burned, three Iron Mountain and one Texas & Pacific, with cotton and cotton oil cake aboard. Some nearby cotton was moved to safety.
Chicago November 27 wheat prices tumbled with July breaking 3 8 cents per bushel. Heavy selling followed reports that an armistice was likely in Europe and that exports would be curtailed by possible submarine operations.
