Shreveport mayor L. E. Thomas filed an affidavit alleging defamation by Huey P. Long during a campaign speech. A warrant charging slander was issued with Long’s bond set at 500 dollars, pending service in Caddo district court.
Huey P Long went to Sheriff T R Hughes office in Shreveport to surrender on a warrant for slander. He was accompanied by his brother Julius T Long who signed a $500 bond amid shouting by onlookers. The exchange included strong insults about L E Thomas and accusations of deceit and dishonor.
Five Chicago radio stations will carry the Notre Dame versus Southern California game for fans. Stations WGN WEBH WMAG KYW and WLS will air the broadcast starting at 1 p.m. with the game kicking off at 1 30 p.m.
Dora Maughan, an American comedian, became a quick favorite in London. Sir Oswald Stoll limited her Alhambra appearance to one week after deeming her song too cynical. She then joined another show and is highlighted in Shake Your Feet at the Palladium.

H C Couch Arkansas utilities magnate purchases the Louisiana and Arkansas Railway in his first railroad ownership venture. The line lies within 20 miles of his birthplace in Columbia County. Couch rose from a poor farm boy to wealth, building a Bell system in Arkansas and leading Arkansas Power and Light. He served as fuel administrator in World War I and chaired flood relief after spring floods.
Notre Dame led by Rockne faces Southern California in a game with Notre Dame scoring 7 in the first period and 6 in the second, the Trojans tallied by periods as the contest progressed.
In Chicago on November 26 the largest football gathering, 113000 fans, filled Soldiers Field for Notre Dame versus undefeated USC. California won the opening toss, Notre Dame received, Drury energized USC drives, and Saunders scored USC’s first touchdown as Edelson and the line exchanged pushes.
Announcement in New York City states Harvey C. Couch and associates of Pine Bluff Arkansas have bought the Louisiana and Arkansas railway for ten million dollars. The 300 mile line, mainly in Louisiana, will see control before January 15 with no change in policies. The purchase adds a major north and central Louisiana network from Hope Arkansas through Minden Winnfield Alexandria to Vidalia and beyond, linking with the Mississippi Central at Vidalia.
Charles Lee Smith president of the American Association for the Advancement of Atheism was held on 500 bail in New York for trial on charges of sending annoying literature to Rev. John Roach Straton pastor of Calvary Baptist church. Straton had sought restraint last April after receiving a near constant stream of clippings deemed annoying.
Two men were held in New Orleans on charges tied to abducting Cecile Bealey and Betty Donaldson in Atlanta. Secret service traced counterfeit money links as the women named the suspects as Jesse Harry Smith 22 and Linwood A Collins 82. Ross of Texas is sought in Shreveport.
Atlanta dispatch reports United States Secret Service head George H. Broadnax saying Jesse Herman Smith was arrested in New Orleans on Friday night, the fourth of five alleged counterfeiters sought since mid October. Mann Act charges may follow. Other suspects linked to the ring are believed active in Chattanooga Atlanta Jacksonville and Miami with three already jailed in Miami Percy Hunter Walter Cole and William Alton Evans named.
John Cardinal Bonzano apostolic delegate to the United States from 1911 to 1923 died in Rome aged 60 after an emergency stomach operation. His last U S visit was last year as papal legate to the Eucharistic congress in Chicago. Memphis reports say Mississippi will begin the new legislature with a bill to pay Confederate veterans a pension of one dollar a day, stated by Gov Elect Bilbo.

A warrant is issued for Gloria Swanson’s husband after he accelerated past limits ignored a signal and drove without a license. Police pursued, and he failed to appear in court.
The jury in Alexandria convicted William Brown, a 21 year old auto mechanic, of charges regarding an incident with a 16 year old maid. The trial before Judge L L Hope ended after the jury had been sequestered overnight. The case began Wednesday morning with the girl describing events near the Marksville road seven miles from Alexandria.
At the Polo Grounds on November 26 Army leads Navy 14 to 2 after three quarters in the annual service classic. Navy opened scoring, then Army countered with two touchdowns as large crowd of about 76,000 watched the eastern return.
Showers early in the week and again around Thursday or Friday. Temperatures expected to be seasonable or above, with cooler conditions on Monday and Tuesday and at week’s end.
A week of Wilson meetings in Ouachita parish concluded with three strong speeches at West Monroe school. Mrs F D LeSeur spoke strongly in favor of Riley Wilson for governor.
