Fire consumes Augusta business district in mass ruins
In Augusta Georgia early today a major fire left nearly half a city block in ruins. Losses from buildings and stocks are estimated at two million dollars. The Augusta Chronicle is totally destroyed. Origin of the fire is undetermined. Aid was requested from Savannah Atlanta Macon Columbia Charleston and Waynesboro. Several cities dispatched manpower and equipment.

Monroe businessman Jonas Meyer dies at 69
Jonas Meyer a longtime Monroe merchant died suddenly yesterday afternoon at Gibsland aged 69. He was born in Germany and after coming to the United States at 16 lived in Monroe fifty years. He was a Mason Elks and Knights of Pythias member known for charity. Funeral at the Jewish synagogue Sunday at 3 the interment in Jewish cemetery. Pallbearers named.
