U.S. Embassy official killed as bus overturns in Israel
A U S Embassy official, James C. Dean, 36, first secretary in Tel Aviv, was killed when a tour bus overturned near Beersheba. Nine others were injured including Mrs. George Younts and Alison Smith. Dean had served since 1974 after a Peace Corps stint and is survived by wife and a 3 year old son.

Nuclear powered heart pacer first implanted in Northeast Louisiana
A young man at Glenwood Hospital received the first atomic powered heart pacer in the region. The device, powered by Plutonium 238, promises 20 years of regular heartbeats, with the procedure aligning to local practice under local anesthesia. The program, joint by the AEC and HEW with Arco, has few global installations and costs about three times conventional pacemakers. The patient’s identity remains private.
