From Washington November 25 Speaker John Garner said the house will pass a beer bill by January 1. Hearings before the House Ways and Means Committee start December 7 and last about five days. Democratic leaders plan immediate floor action while Collier will introduce the measure December 5. Republican beer advocates may back the non partisan proposal. Senator Hastings of Delaware signals support for repeal resolutions but not for wine and beer legislation. He plans to submit a repeal amendment or a full repeal depending on chances. He will also push a bill to limit federal enforcement of the Volstead Act in states not enforcing prohibition.

Tomorrow Saturday November 26 the public sale of property with unpaid 1931 taxes will be held. Milton Coverdale sheriff and ex-officio tax collector will conduct the sale with C D Meredith acting as auctioneer. Orville Conley age 20 shot and killed his college roommate Brown Ramsey Smoot 20 on the courthouse square in Woodbury after a friendly greeting.
