Drifting boat yields body of Monroe night watchman
The body of Tom Allen, 58, a Monroe night watchman, was found Tuesday night in the Ouachita River when two river dwellers pulled a drifting boat to shore and untangled a taut rope from his right wrist. Allen lived alone and did odd jobs. the Indiana steamboat owned by Marietta Manufacturing Co of Point Pleasant was moored nearby. No foul play suspected. no witnesses.

Admitted Slayer Tries For Death In Prison
Wilbur J. Cassidy of Socorro New Mexico confessed to the mutilation murder of Rose Garcia a 19 year old servant girl. He attempted suicide by hanging in his cell and was saved by jail staff. Cassidy said he wanted to kiss her goodbye and asked to see her after exhumation of the body. Assistant District Attorney Feliciano Sedillo said a signed confession existed and Cassidy sought the electric chair. His preliminary hearing was waived.
