A Georgia banker linked to a world traversal over three years faces charges as investigators probe a possible foul play angle in his death. He allegedly used funds for personal needs and fled the state thirteen years ago while serving as president of a network of 107 small banks.
John D. Walker once led 107 Georgia banks and headed the North Georgia Methodist mission board. He arrived in Atlanta for custody on charges of converting bank funds to his own use, after years of fugitive pursuit worldwide. Walker sought to recoup fortune in Texas and abroad before extradition and federal indictments.
West Lucas, a negro, was found guilty of murder in the first degree for killing Henry Wilson, a former deputy of Knox County. The jury recommended life imprisonment. His attorney said a motion for a new trial would be filed and 30 days were allowed to enter it.
J. E. Betis of Burnaby bought an unclaimed trunk for 14 50 at a Vancouver baggage sale and discovered an embalmed man in a wooden casket.
