Acreage Sale In Ouachita Parish To Tremont Lumber

John A. Tiller of Lake Village Ark sold 6099.98 acres in Ouachita Parish to Tremont Lumber Company Rochelle Grant Parish for 119205.60 with 57150.20 cash. Tiller bought the land November 9 for 72718.80 from Joseph M. Jones. The property covers multiple sections in townships 15 and 16 north. Tremont plans immediate development and lumber plants in the parish.

Bus Line Starts Soon Between Monroe and West Monroe

A jitney bus line will be inaugurated between Monroe and West Monroe by the Commercial League of West Monroe. The route will extend to Trenton with trips to the Iron Mountain station in Monroe and regular schedules will be kept.

Columbia Nov 23 G T Martin owner of a modest gin announced plans to resume operations this week despite a blackhand letter threatening destruction if he starts. Others including Fr Mitchell a jitney driver Lafayette Moran a motor truck driver and Warner Brown a garage worker also received white property job threats via mail from the same source. Postal authorities are alerted to identify and punish the guilty parties.

Two Are Killed in Mine Blast in Alabama

Two men were killed and nine injured when an explosion hit mine number two of the Railway Fuel Company in Walker county. About 250 miners were at work. noninjured workers escaped through the rear entrance to safety.

Two City Houses in Blaze Today

Fire department responded to Calypso and Vicksburg streets where a home occupied by negroes burned with unknown origin causing about 300 dollars in damage. During firefighting alerts two nearby negro houses at 1105 and 1109 Oak Street suffered 55 dollars in damages from sparks. The Oak Street homes are owned by D. P. Parker.

West Monroe Trade Market Day planned to boost local business

West Monroe will host Trade Market Day under the Commercial League with farm and Ouachita parish participation. Activities include Ruston Aircraft demonstrations, theatre entertainments, Norris tent shows, school and church attractions, a 1:40 p.m. merchant parade, and nationwide sales, plus food vendors throughout the day.

Crowded West Monroe Schools Reflect Growth Strain

West Monroe and Monroe schools face overcrowded conditions with every space used for classrooms. About 400 pupils attend in West Monroe while Monroe’s City school handles around 12.75 hundred pupils. No relief is expected this term as new buildings are not due to be completed, though the colored school may soon be ready if construction accelerates.

Work Day for New M. E. Church in Claiborne

Community Methodist Church members in the Claiborne neighborhood plan a work day on Wednesday November 24 to build a new church edifice. A bountiful dinner will be served to all who assist and join the effort. Workers are asked to meet at the church grounds early in the morning ready to labor.
