The city of Monroe Louisiana secures approval from the Capital Issues Committee for a 150000 bond issue to fund a filtration plant incinerating plant sewer extensions and street work with final council action due at the December 2nd meeting.
General March states Pershing has authority to send home nonessential troops. Lists divisions and regiments to be returned and troops from England, with totals of casualties and prisoners. Notes Russia casualties were light and demobilization at home proceeds steadily.
More than a million Austrian soldiers deserted and formed Green Guards, posting in fortified forest camps across southeastern Europe. W. J. Rose, agent for the Slovene government in Laibach, reports the sprawling insurgent force near Slovakian and Silesian authorities.
Washington November 28. For the treasury secretaryship the names John Skelton Williams W P G Harding Russell Leffingwell and Paul Warburg are mentioned. Some think the president may pick another cabinet member for railroad administrator duties with Baker Burleson or Lane as likely alternatives.
Washington officials discreet on a report about the Mooney case while a transmission from John Densmore to William Wilson triggers scrutiny. In San Francisco, labor groups push for a new Mooney trial and a formal inquiry into alleged evidence manufacture in bomb case proceedings.
Amsterdam reports two hundred seventy eight people affected by dethronement or abdication of rulers. It lists thirty three from the Prussian royal line and thirty nine from the Bavarian royal family among those impacted.
In Columbus on November 23 the Anti-Saloon League led a world-wide conference demanding strict law enforcement at home and steps to unite nations against liquor. London reports in connection with Fr. Solf's appeal to the United States for food that Germany uses two rations, one for soldiers larger than that for the population. Solf urges maintaining the front line standard, claiming this ration is larger than the British have had in four years. Treasury port post to be given up as soon as successor named.
King Albert and Queen Elizabeth arrived in Brussels at 10:50 a clock Friday accompanied by Princes Leopold and Charles and Princess Marie Jose. The city welcomed them with flowers along the route as crowds cheered in jubilation.
In Amsterdam on November 23 a joint meeting of Soldiers and Workmen's Councils of the German navy decided to form a main committee for the naval arm. It will represent all navy councils with headquarters at Wilhelmshaven. Fifty-three delegates will elect five comrades as a central committee. The five will sign all orders of the ministry of marine and admiralty staff.
Washington reports secretary of the treasury and director-general of railroads William Gibbs McAdoo has resigned to replenish his private fortune. President Wilson accepted the resignation and McAdoo will leave the treasury post once a successor is chosen, aiming for January 1 if possible. The move follows talks on fiscal duties during wartime transition and includes the possibility of further Liberty Loans and tax reform.
