The Monroe Commission Council adopted a little over 10 million dollar budget with a small surplus and no current raises. Mayor W L Jack Howard said amendments may occur if new revenue appears. An October audit showed a deficit of 96 thousand rather than the budgeted 2.28 million, and a street project on Commerce Edgewood Collier and Harrison streets was postponed pending January bids.
Monroe Chamber of Commerce presented hazardous intersection findings to the Commission Council. 130 intersections described as hazardous with 55 from vegetation and 75 from signs or signals. 2,904 accidents occurred last year, with La 165 U.S. 80 area worst at 80 incidents. Plans include turn lanes and pedestrian overpasses. city to act via Police Chief Buffington and a new advisory committee.
