Spokane Medic Earns Silver Star and Three Purple Hearts

Larry R. Larson, 19, an Army medic now back from 13 months in Vietnam, describes saving lives as his greatest satisfaction. He earned the Silver Star, Bronze Star, three Purple Hearts, the Army Commendation Medal, the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, and three campaign ribbons. Diversification Of Farming In Area Cited In Ouachita Parish

Ouachita Parish has shifted from a single crop economy to wider farming diversity over 33 years says retired County Agent J. J. Joyce Jr. Cotton remains the top income source at about 53 million dollars, soybeans at 37.5 million, and yams around 2 million. The northeast Louisiana region now lists 3862 commercial farms with varied incomes and numbers across Franklin Morehouse and Ouachita parishes, highlighted during a Farmy City Week talk at the Monroe Kiwanis Club with visiting farmers attending.

House Approves Study Resolution on State Financing

The Louisiana House approved a study resolution by Rep. Parey Branton of Shangaloo to convene a legislative committee to review state government financing. The 75 to 10 vote excludes any immediate adjournment plan, with four senators six representatives and two budget committee members to lead the study. Branton said it will cost little, with staff from the legislative auditor and the public affairs research council.

Eight Die As Reds Down US Planes Near Da Nang

Three U S aircraft were shot down near Da Nang killing eight Americans and wounding 12. A CH46 helicopter, an F100 Super Sabre, and an F4 Phantom were downed. The helicopter crash killed six Americans and injured 12. The Phantom crew of two died, while the Super Sabre’s two crew were rescued.

Plane Crash Stuns Bonita as Private Pilot Is Injured

Arkansas plane operator Harry Davis was admitted in undetermined condition after his craft struck a power line and crashed at McKain Private Airport along La Ark Road near Bonita. The plane was destroyed by flames and Davis’s wife and Mrs McKain witnessed the wreck.
