Protest March Sets Oakland Viet Nam Day Rally
Gov. Edmund G. Brown pledged to use police powers to keep order during a five mile Viet Nam Day Committee march from UC Berkeley to Oakland. Oakland declared a state of emergency and sought aid as some 15 000 demonstrators and 5 000 bystanders were expected. The event follows two thwarted attempts and a past clash with the Hell's Angels as police prepared to protect life and property.

United Givers Fund drive progress in Ouachita Parish
The Ouachita Parish United Givers Fund sixth report shows $203,471 raised, 71.4 percent of a $284,934 goal, up $18,433 from last week’s $185,088 (64.9 percent). Chairman J C Mose Loftin calls the progress gratifying but urges immediate contributions from employers and employees. Figures by area and division show Monroe area $151,031 (76.7% of $196,770), other areas and professional gifts completing the tally.

Teen Held in Jet Hijacking Attempt Near New Orleans
U S Commissioner Windhorst ordered 16 year old Thomas Robinson of Brownsville Texas held for grand jury action on a jet hijacking attempt. The honor student fired two pistols at the cockpit floor on a National Airlines DC8 bound for Melbourne and Miami forcing a return to New Orleans. He claimed anti Communist motives and said he believed firing would draw attention to anti Castro prisoners. No one was hurt. Robinson said he wanted to go to Cuba to protest conditions.
