Nine members of a mob that abducted and lynched Dave Wright in Douglas Georgia last August pleaded guilty to murder. Sentences ranged from four years to life imprisonment as the case closed in a landmark related to the state 1926 lynching. Major Brown pleaded guilty and received life. Plan for Robbery Ties Monroe Killing to Bernice Partners
The Monroe News-Star reports Robert Allen, 24, a partner of McHenry Smith, 28, in Bernice, admitted to sheriff’s officials that Smith urged him to join a plan to rob the Missouri Pacific night ticket agent two months ago. Allen, held in the Union parish jail, says he refused. The fatal shootout occurred when Marshal Jackson and deputies confronted Allen and Smith at a Bernice hardware store. Jackson died later en route to a hospital, and Allen was sent to Monroe for safety amid threats of mob violence.

South Side School Contract Awarded as Fire Hall Bids Rejected
At a special city council meeting Mayor Arnold Bernstein awarded the south end graded school contract to George C. Love of Monroe for 44450 on Lee avenue. Two bids for the new stucco fire station near Lee avenue and Jackson street were rejected and re-advertised. Hit and run crashes truck pinning driver for hour
David Price 19 of Jayess Mississippi narrowly escaped death when a large car struck his truck about a mile north of Spencer.
