A boiler explosion at the Monroe Shingle Company plant caused extensive damage and fatalities. The blast demolished structures and left debris across the site, with responders working to control fires and account for workers.
A boiler blast at 6:26 this morning at Monroe Shingle Company in the city’s lower section kills owner Mr Stewart and injures fireman Sig Harris and worker Robert Flournoy. The plant is demolished and will require rebuilding. causes point to low water and sudden cold-water surge.
Boston reports a striking case involving ex US Deputy Marshal Donald Cameron who prosecuted a white slavery trial then reportedly lived with the alleged victim. He faces charges of bigamy and nonsupport as the case returns to Roxbury District Court. The girl, Malvina Beaudry of Lawrence, had helped convict a slave trafficker years ago.

A blaze at the State Reform School in Marianna Florida today destroyed the institution and reports say ten inmates were killed.
The country home of Mr. J. F. Nobles, former eighth ward police jury member, burned at 2 pm yesterday. The house valued at 2000 dollars and goods at 1000 dollars were mostly destroyed. Nobles carried 1500 dollars insurance on the residence.
Geo. Seite and R. L. Butler proprietors of the Palace Pool Hall were tried in city court for gaming ordinance violation but discharged. Judge Mansham ruled the domino game as operated did not violate gambling ordinances.

A white man was found dead beside the V S P railroad track near Morgan's spur by the engineer of west bound train No 1. He was struck by a train and local crew recovered the body. No identification could be made from his clothing and time of death is unknown. De Kaffie of Natchitoches visited Monroe this week as a guest of Mr Happy Hale.
Deputy Sheriff Fr S Stevenson Sheriff Jack Parker and Revenue Agent Bob Rollins arrested McDaniel for making and passing counterfeit half dollars and five cent pieces. He operated in Morehouse Parish about three months and was captured on DeSiard street near Hall street after a chase to Monroe. He confessed and awaits transfer to federal authorities. Stevenson also arrested Frank Watson and three other white men in Morehouse Parish on a charge of assault with intent to kill.
