Alger Hiss returns to the Foley Square federal courthouse for a second perjury trial linked to Whittaker Chambers. The case centers on who lied about passing confidential government information and from 1937 to the probe, with each count carrying up to five years.
Two B-29s collided at 26,000 feet above Stockton at midnight leaving 4 survivors, 7 dead, 11 missing. Survivors include Lt. Warren F. Sharrock and Pvt. Keith R. Burns. Planes from the 92nd bombardment group, 325th and 326th squadrons, were part of a round-robin flight over California and Utah.

In Pensacola Florida on November 17 the navy announced a bed was recovered from a muddy river island for one victim Lt J G K W Myers of Belvedere Illinois. The other victim Aviation Cadet William G Irwin of Carthage Missouri died when their training plane plummeted into a cypress swamp 40 miles northwest of Pensacola Monday.
