Wholesale food prices show several Thanksgiving staples cheaper than last year while turkeys and other poultry rise. Best dressed turkeys up to 27 cents per pound, choice birds 26 1/2 to 27 1/2 cents. Eggs potatoes apples show cuts up to 50 percent from prior periods.
Navy officers of the freighter Algie testified before a federal grand jury studying mutiny charges against 14 crew members following a sit-down strike in Montevideo. Earlier, charges of involuntary manslaughter against two mates were dismissed in the Gill case from Victor Brazil.
A southern filibuster disrupted the Senate special session by opposing the anti lynching bill. Senator Wagner of New York sought floor time, with Senator Connally of Texas initiating the lengthy debate as southern Democrats signaled further opposition for several days.
Ernest C. Fudickar pioneer businessman of Monroe and founder of Consolidated Ice died at his Riverside Drive home Wednesday morning aged nearly 81. Born in Vohwinkel Germany in 1857 he emigrated to the United States as a youth and helped build one of the early regional ice industries serving as president until selling the firm to American Service in 1929.
State police local officers and federal agents pressed a wide manhunt in Syracuse for three men aged 36 35 and 35 suspected of kidnapping John J OConnell Jr in 1933 and later escaping from Onondaga county jail The trio allegedly forced a car ride and attacked the driver and his mother before fleeing toward Syracuse as investigators piece together the case based on a reported identification and sightings.
Fire swept a half block of Columbus businesses early today causing damage estimated at 500000 dollars or more and injuring over twenty firefighters. The blaze damaged several storefronts in the downtown area and disrupted business activity.
