New Orleans reports a quiet session as December and March futures drifted with narrow trading. Prices opened near steady, rose briefly on early buying, then eased on hedge selling before closing largely unchanged with modest net declines. Exports for the day totaled 29,972 bales.
Cotton was quiet with slight declines under pressure from grain and stock markets. The mid afternoon market held steady with net declines of 3 to 5 points as futures closed down 2 to 5 points. Spot cotton was quiet with middling at 6.40.
Chicago market report shows hogs 19 000 head with direct sales of 5 000 rising 10 to 15 points and top at 3 75 while pigs and packing sows sell in ranges. Cattle and calves total 6 500 with dull demand for slaughter steers and yearlings and vealers at 4 25 to 5 50. Sheep activity remains light with weak to uneven sales and Dover weights at 5 25 to 5 75.
In New Orleans on November 17, UPI reports cottonseed oil closed steady with prime summer yellow at 3.50 to 3.69 and prime crude from 2.87 1 2 up to 3.00. Futures quoted Nov 3.51 Dec 3.51 Jan 3.54 March 3.70 May 3.81.
Sugar markets opened with 1 to 2 point gains in New York trading on November 17. The session closed steady with a net 1 point higher to 1 point lower, as sales reached 13,100 tons. Prices quoted include Dec 98, Jan 91-92, Mar 91, May 96-97, July 1.02, Sept 1.06.

Liverpool reports 18 200 bales of American cotton selling with firm demand and higher quotes. Spot values rise across grades from strict low middling 5.31 to strict good middling 6.31 while futures close quiet with Dec at 5.34 and Oct 5.39.
Poultry live sales in Chicago show steady to lower prices across varieties. Hens range around 10.5 to 13.5 cents, Leghorn hens about 9, colored springs 11, Rock Springs 11.5, roosters 9, hens turkeys 16, young toms 15, old toms 12, ducks 10.5 to 11.2, geese 10, Leghorn broilers 9.

Chicago November 17 USDA potato market news shows 92 on track 175 total U S shipments 469 with moderate supplies and trading. Wisconsin round whites quoted 67 1 2 to 75 with most at 70 and Michigan Russet rurals few sales at 67 1 2. Colorado McClures at 1.22 1 2 and Idaho Russets 1.25 35.

Dan Davis alias Donald Douglas and Jimmy Dear faced trial after Davis was found guilty on a robbery charge and recommended for mercy. Earl Joyner and Dear had pleaded guilty to the same offense tied to a $300 robbery of the Alexandria Steam Laundry on March 26. A subsequent trial covered automobile theft after a jail break. The stolen car belonged to O G Butler of Pineville. A jail guard was slugged and his son wounded during the escape.
Baton Rouge officials report Arthur J. Thomas sergeant at arms of the Louisiana House wounded in the right wrist after a gunfight with neighbor C. H. Boone. Boone, a gasoline service station operator, was detained for questioning as deputies investigate the driveway shooting initiated when Boone fired first. Mrs Boone sought help from Thomas, leading to the exchange. Both men said they had not known each other prior.

Washington November 17. Extradition of Samuel Insull Sr. from Greece seems close as papers arrive from Governor Emmerson of Illinois. Insull, once a key utilities magnate, fled after the Chicago crash and indictments for larceny and embezzlement. He is 73 and has lawyers contesting extradition.
Louisiana Women’s Christian Temperance Union closes its session in Lake Charles with officer elections and a vote to pick next year’s convention city. The group asked Presidents Hoover and Roosevelt not to push modification of the Volstead Act or repeal of the 18th amendment at the December Congress session. Memorial services honored eight members who died in the year.
