U S Delivers No Backing To Corporate Interference In Mexico Policy

Washington officials said no corporation or group will dictate U.S. recognition of Mexico. Preliminary recognition would not require abrogation of article twenty seven if it does not infringe American rights. If laws under article twenty seven are confiscatory, recognition would be withheld. Mexico City reports of a court restraining Obregon decree were denied. decree to be published Thursday.

Manor Collision Kills Woman. West Monroe Man's Father Injured

Telegram reports Mrs. J. P. Lockwood of Manor Texas is killed and her son J E Lockwood of West Monroe learns his father is seriously injured after an automobile and train collision in Manor. The couple were said to be in a sedan when struck by a train. Mrs Lockwood age 65 to 70. Mr Lockwood older, a retired local businessman. Mrs Lockwood born in Europe. Mr Lockwood a native of East Texas.

Preliminary hearing in Collins murder case before Judge Odom

Charles Collins a prominent planter faced a preliminary hearing in the sixth judicial district court with Judge Fred M. Odom presiding. Twelve witnesses, including Mrs Miller and Charles Miller, testified as the charge was upgraded from manslaughter to murder. Bail was denied and Collins remains jailed awaiting the Monroe grand jury next month.

West Side Trade Market Day to Feature Street Carnival

West Monroe plans a red letter event named Trade Market Day on Wednesday November 24. A street carnival will attract visitors with school faculty backing and Baptist and Methodist church groups providing lunch stands and entertainment. The moving picture theater will show special films, and Ouachita parish visitors are expected from adjacent areas for a large, well hosted event.

Kaplan's Greater Shows Plan Winter Engagement in Monroe

Kaplan's Greater Shows announced by agent F. B. Colville will stage in Monroe soon after the new year bringing about 800 performers and preparations to store equipment with quarters. Kaylan's Srester Shows opens November 29 under American Legion auspices for a week, described as high class and among the best in the South, before moving on in the region.

Alexander to Address Monroe Sportsmen Friday Night

M L Alexander of New Orleans conservation commissioner will speak at Monroe City Hall Friday night at 8 o clock. Invited by the Ouachita Game Protective Association the event is aimed at Louisiana bird life pictures and other features for sportsmen with expectations of large attendance.

Villa Starts Up Farming On Big Scale In Mexico

Villa the former bandit now leads a large colony of followers farming a section of land south of Eoseda in Lower California about 140 miles from Tia Juana. The Associated Press reports the group has settled in a distant area after arriving Friday in Eoseda.

Red Cross Leader Praises Ouachita Parish Roll Call Effort

Paul C. Gerhart state manager for the fourth Red Cross roll call visited Monroe to commend Ouachita parish chapter leadership. He listed Col. Frank P. Stubbs C. E. Faulk Mrs. Jonas Selig Sam Smith and Mrs. M. B. Shaw as strong organizers and urged residents to support memberships and donations. He praised Gulf Division Headquarters honor roll and predicted a successful campaign.

Clipper Begins Bouef Trade In Short Time

Secretary Cross of the Chamber of Commerce received a telegram from H J Fernandez traffic manager in New Orleans stating the Clipper of the Carter Packet Company will be placed in service in the Monroe Boueff river trade as soon as there is sufficient water in Boeuff river The telegram also said Ouachita river transportation traffic between Monroe and New Orleans will be resumed within thirty days.

Last Chance Oil Well Flows 1200 Barrels A Day

The Last Chance Oil Company well near Pine Island, organized by Charles Breard, flowed 1,200 barrels for two hours before sanding up. Pressure caused oil to spill over the derrick and drilling halted after two feet below the six inch, awaiting cleanup.

Harding Invited to Mexico Decide Within Next Hours

Brownaville Nov 17 Senator Harding’s reply to the invitation to visit Mexico on his southern trip will be determined in the next twenty four hours as he travels by special train to New Orleans. He leaves Brownaville after a nine day vacation at 10 o’clock and will arrive in New Orleans at 10 o’clock tomorrow for a five hour stay to address the association of commerce.
